Neo Malowa: A high-flier on the bourse and a good mother

As soon as she graduated, she had to dedicate three years to caring for her baby boy. Today Neo Malowa is a relative high-flier whose job entails interfacing with clients buying or selling shares on the BSE after which she enjoys chilling with friends and spending "quality time" helping her younger siblings with their homework, writes LERATO MALEKE

When 25-year-old Neo Malowa completed her degree in Software Engineering at Botho College in 2008, she was confronted with a problem that demanded immediate attention. Unlike most of her colleagues, she would have to forego job hunting and devote the next three years or so to baby care.

Malowa is now Share Transfer Secretary (STS) at African Banking Corporation of Botswana Limited (BancABC), but it was a long shot to get there because her son, Thapelo, was only a few months old when the single mother graduated from college. "I plunged into it with great gusto and enjoyed every minute of it," she says. "It is the source of my happiest memories today. I thank God that my son always made the prescribed weight for every stage and did not have the usual health challenges of babies.
