Mine workers pack and go

LETLHAKANE: As Debswana management and Botswana Mine Workers Union (BMWU) were locked in a heated meeting this week, some frustrated workers were already packing their bags and leaving Orapa and Letlhakane towns.

Although the Mmegi team could not secure a permit to enter the secured Orapa Township, at the town's eastern gate, some workers were already ferrying their valuables home. Mini trucks and vans carrying beds, wardrobes, fridges, television sets were already hitting the road en route various destinations.

On our way along the Orapa-Francistown road, we could count five or more loaded vans transporting goods of mine workers who have lost hope. Despite the drizzle up to Francistown last Tuesday, the concerned miners were determined to head home.
