Not many people in the village or in his school knew him or even bothered to take any interest in his work as an amateur boxer. Even when his school and village learnt that he was travelling abroad to India for the Junior Commonwealth Games, many people were indifferent and unconcerned.

He left for India quietly without any fanfare or pomp. It was thought to be just another outing that would not yield any results, succeeding only in bleeding the national treasury.
