Built 62 years ago, in what is considered the centre of Gaborone, the Main Mall, just a stone’s throw from the office where I work, Dikgang Publishing Company, has surely maintained its resilience and nostalgic charm. Writes Mmegi Staffer RYDER GABATHUSE

The Mall’s sturdiness has helped it stand the test of time, even with glaring stiff competition, especially with the advent of the development of modern malls like Airport Junction, Game City, River Walk, Molapo Crossing Mall, Sarona City Mall, The Fields Mall, and Sebele Mall.

There are satellite malls across the city of Gaborone and its environs that provide an extended service to the ever-growing Gaborone city. Frantically, at some stage, the Main Mall painted a picture of a deserted Mall despite its fighting spirit to maintain reasonable patronage.

A tribunal ordered a re-evaluation.The council and the initial winner appealed to the High Court. Now, the Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, frustrated by the delay, writes to the council suggesting the tender be cancelled, and an alternative procurement model be explored, while the matter is still before the courts....
