Every weekday, as domestic worker Nnana Kgopolo leaves her rented quarters in Satellite to go to work in one of the upmarket suburbs of Francistown, her heart skips a bit, dreading what lies ahead.

Her fears stems from the fact that she has to cross the crime-infested fairways of the Francistown golf club where muggings are the order of the day and worse, some women have been raped and men stabbed to death.


Women are the most vulnerable to attacks by thugs lurking in the mophane thickets, especially around a hillock east of the fairways on the way to Donga.
The likes of Kgopolo are usually terrified when walking through the area and avoid passing too close to men.
