Chief Magistrate Moves To Lobatse

FRANCISTOWN: Francistown chief magistrate Kenneth Obeng has been moved to Lobatse on promotion as an acting High Court registrar. The Ghanaian who became a citizen of Botswana in 2002 has been a chief magistrate for 10 years.

Obeng migrated from Ghana to Botswana on March 1980 and has shuffled between private practice and the magistracy. His first duty station was Maun, then Serowe followed by Selebi-Phikwe. He was admitted to bar in Ghana in 1974 and he came to Botswana as a senior magistrate. After a stint as a magistrate in Botswana he left to practice privately in Palapye and Selebi-Phikwe. The 64-year-old Obeng has been all over the country either practicing law privately or working for the government as a magistrate.

"I was re-employed in 1988 and this time I went to Serowe but because of the localisation we all left again in 1995 and I went back to private practice. I was then re-employed in 1997 as a chief magistrate and I was in Selebi-Phikwe and stayed there until 2003 when I came to Francistown," he said.
