BNF rally hooks herd-boy to politics

MOKOBOXANE: To some, politics is a calling. Yet others have their political heroes to thank for attracting them to the field.

For Obonye Lobang, who falls within the latter category, it was a rare visit to a Botswana National Front (BNF) rally in November 1998 that left him hooked to the world of politics and his future party.Mmegi had a chat with Lobang who will contest for the position of councillor in the tiny village of Mokoboxane in BNF colours. Lobang will stand against Sidney Botlhokobotsile of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) for the council by-election slated for March 10.

The by-election is being held following the death of Councillor Galesebiwe Gaothuswe of BDP in November last year.Lobang (35) clearly remembers how he got hooked to the BNF and Botswana politics in general as if it happened yesterday.
