Then and now

We all experience days which are exceptional, thought provoking or merely unusual. One of those, for me, came last Thursday which began with a perusal of a treasure trove of mixed archival material from the 1960s which had just arrived, kindly sent to me from England.

Included in the package were letters to and from Naomi Mitchison, newspaper articles by Naomi, and photos – two being of Kgosi Linchwe’s wedding in 1966.

Taken together, they brought back to me memories but also events of the past which I had totally forgotten. And then, shortly afterwards, I enjoyed a long discusion with Elias Dewah which covered much ground, past and present, and included comment about some of those people who we had both known in the past, such as Greek Ruele.

Gov’t must rectify recognition of Khama as Kgosi

While it is widely acknowledged that Khama holds the title of Kgosi, the government’s failure to properly gazette his recognition has raised serious concerns about adherence to legal procedures and the credibility of traditional leadership.
