Zimbabwe Needs Help

Last week we carried a story of a Zimbabwean man, Singazi Dube, who was found 'lifeless' at the notorious 'Resting Place' outside Francistown.

Dube did not know that he was risking his life by resting at this place where many people have been attacked, mainly by thugs from his country, who are as hungry as he was. Dube is one of the many Zimbabweans who can no longer withstand the unbearable conditions back home.

The country has degenerated from one of the food baskets of the region to economic shambles. As a result, many citizens have to flee to other countries to find means of survival. Some end up engaging in illegal activities to sustain themselves and their families back in Zimbabwe. Dube had walked for two days and slept in the bush. He could have been killed during the dangerous journey. In their weekly report last week, the police reported that three Zimbabweans were devoured by crocodiles when they attempted to cross the Limpopo River into South Africa. One just wonders if the powers that be in Zimbabwe get to hear these stories. The rulers of Zimbabwe seem to think all is well in their country and rightly so because they have the means to sustain their families. It is the small man that suffers.
