Were red flags ignored in ‘failed’ AFCON bid?

After months of promise and expectation, Botswana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations bid suffered a body blow when Namibia withdrew from the process this week. Last year, Botswana and Namibia announced a joint-bid to host the 2027 AFCON tournament.

But the hopes of hosting the tournament were crushed in cruel fashion this week, with Namibia abandoning Botswana at the 11th hour.

In all likelihood, or even by the time you read this, Botswana will too, have surrendered as it takes an astronomical budget to go it alone.
