We urge double diligence

Last week, government clinched the deal of the generation when it signed a 10-year contract with De Beers for the sorting, valuing and marketing of Debswana production that is worth P20 billion a year on average.

As Minister Ponatshego Kedikilwe accurately put it at the signing ceremony, this is a giant leap towards securing the economic future of Botswana.

Significantly, government did not only succeed in acquiring an independent window to ensure a 10 percent direct claim of Debswana's run of mine rough; it has finally committed its partner, De Beers, to move the aggregating, sorting and valuing activities from London to Gaborone.
