Traffic jams are a planning issue

The traffic jams that we are experiencing throughout the country, in Gaborone in particular, are a clear indictment on planning by those charged with the responsibility, and should teach us a lesson about planning for the future.

The situation is so bad that almost every traffic light in Gaborone is being substituted by a police officer during peak hours.  While we have been told that there will be a major revamp of the road system in the capital, we believe there is an urgent need for building more alternative roads leading out of Gaborone.

In the current arrangement, the road that rounds Rainbow Circle along Kudumatse Road is the only exit route for the thousands of people going to Kanye, Thamaga, Mankgodi, Gabane and Mogoditshane every day.  We wonder why there can't be a road bisecting Tsolamosese to Gabane, and then linking Mankgodi and Manyana villages.
