Tourism expo should be inward looking

Let us start by complimenting the organisers for hosting the inaugural Tourism Expo. Indeed such an event is a welcome innovation and one that deserves cherishing. May it continue for decades to come.

However, reports that the expo was characterised by external exhibitors from neighbouring and far away countries trying to lure Batswana to visiting their destinations, is worrying.

While we expect challenges in a first-ever event like this one, we feel the organisers of this noble initiative should learn that the mission and aim of an expo like this is to publicise, expose, promote, brand, market, and sell Botswana tourism products and services. In short, such an expo should be inward looking for the simple reason that time has come for Botswana Tourism to change the stereotype that Botswana is not fun.
