The land question

Land has become a contentious issue in this country. Of late, Batlokwa have been up in arms over allocation of plots in their village. Their contention is that there is no land in their area and priority should be given to Batlokwa.

The reality is that some areas have more land than others. But the law in Botswana allows Batswana to apply for land anywhere in this country.Over the weekend Bakgatla joined the fray and they only want the Bakgatla to be allocated land in their territory. This does not bode well for this country. Batswana should be tolerant and allow people from other areas to live among them. We should not allow a situation where only a certain tribe lives exclusively in an area.

It is wrong for people to sound tribalistic by  saying they don't want people from other tribes to be allocated land in their area. There is always talk that there is no land that can be allocated to people whether it is for residential or business purposes.
