Our Parliament, Our Disgrace

Once again, on Friday Parliament proceedings had to be adjourned because the House could not form a quorum. Only a few MPs returned from tea break only to wait for 15 minutes hoping that their colleagues would pitch up.

Only Ministers Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi and Lesego Motsumi and a handful of assistant ministers were present. This is, indeed, a disturbing turn of events. We have commented on this matter before calling on whoever is responsible for the National Assembly to do something about it but they seem not to bother at all. It is clear that MPs are in the House to enrich themselves and they have taken this nation for a ride for a long time. Surely, enough is enough.

We call on the Speaker to come forward and tell the nation what he has done to ensure that the taxpayer is not taken for a ride. We know that it is enough for an MP to just show his face in the House for five minutes and disappear only to get a full claim for the day. That's what they do and we have cautioned many times about this. This is pure theft, fraud, and robbery, but nobody seems to care.
