No paper trail, no EVM

“When everybody is shouting, even Mugabe must listen…” these were the words of former minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Phandu Skelemani in 2008 at the height of political turmoil in Zimbabwe. Skelemani was addressing journalists at home on the situation next door, where Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe was unleashing terror on his opponents leaving a trail of death, kidnappings and misplaced communities, to remain in power by force after having lost at the ballot.

The words carried a strong message that cautioned that even hard headed individuals should listen when majority of people around them are complaining about a decision that has direct effect on them and many others.

Almost 10 years later, from the land of ‘reason’ and Skelemani far away from the political seat he could voice opinion from, his Government if forcing matters, though not of same force as Zimbabwe of then; but doing something the former Botswana legislator warned against.
