May tolerance take root

The President's Day weekend, that was characterised by political meetings, has come and gone.

All the major political parties held meetings of critical self-analysis at various destinations around the country: the MELS Movement in Mogoditshane, the Botswaa People's Party (BPP) in Francistown, the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) in Gaborone, the Botswana National Front (BNF) in Ramotswa and the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in Kanye.

These congresses and conferences are now history. The parties now have the reality of a general election before them. However, we note that these congresses went without any unwelcome incidents reported, other than the unfortunate one of the Leader of the Opposition, Otsweletse Moupo, having to be rushed to hospital after he fell ill at the BNF conference. Thankfully, Moupo is reported to have soon stabilised and felt well enough to return to the conference. BNF members and Batswana in general will be happy to learn that he is in good health.
