Just the other day, Botswana's first cellular phone company, Masom, was celebrating ten years of existence.It has been ten years since cellular phones were introduced to Botswana. The cellular phone has completely transformed ways of doing business and even our way of life.

With the advent of cell phones, communication became faster. Cell phone technology enabled us to achieve what we would not have done over the last ten years.
Over the past 40 years, it has not been possible to reach many areas, particularly rural areas.

With the advent of cell phones, tele-density has improved in leaps and bounds. Thousands of people in Botswana now have access to a cell phone and this has significantly reduced the digital divide. It would appear that any major telecommunications innovation would have to be based on the cell phone, since this is the most pervasive communications gadget.
