No one doubts the strides that we continue to make in many other spheres. The feat and achievement made in these areas have all been due to effort and commitment made by individuals and organisations. As a nation, we should jealously guard against the erosion of our coveted glory. Crime is emerging as a major destructive force that is hell bent on decimating all the gains that we have made. Everyday, newspaper pages, radio and television news are splashed with stories of petty crime and violent crime.
Our streets are becoming even more violent and homes are no longer the haven that they should be as dangerous criminals have taken over. With unemployment growing and local youth turning to crime, in addition to illegal immigrants, some of whom have resorted to crime, the police are simply overwhelmed by the menace.
It underscores the indispensable role women play in our society, particularly in building strong households and nurturing families.
