The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) launched its mission in Botswana last week.

The AmCham helps United States of America (US) companies across Africa to mitigate economic risks through advocacy and access and by identifying investment opportunities.Speaking at the launch, US under secretary of state for economic growth, energy and the environment, Robert Hormats said AmCham's mission is to foster commerce between the US and Botswana. " We want to establish a relationship, work together and utilise this bilateral relationship to strengthen our businesses as well as the economy," he said Speaking at the launch, Alfred Dube, AmCham president in Botswana, said the organisation advocates the principles of free trade, open markets, private enterprise, unrestricted flow of information and ethical business practices.

AmCham exist in most African countries such as South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria and Ethiopia. Recently Botswana business delegates participated in the National Black Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta, Georgia, endeavouring to generate possible opportunities for foreign direct investment (FDI). The Botswana Confederation of Commerce, Industry and Power (BOCCIM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NBCC and this will support processes for business and economic development objectives as well as the development of trade between the two countries.
