Sub-Saharan African's 2008 economic outlook favourable - IMF

Sub-Saharan Africa, a region that is experiencing its strongest growth and lowest inflation in 30 years, could see further economic growth and a decline in inflation in 2008, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Monday.

Presenting the IMF's regional economic outlook for sub-Saharan Africa, IMF senior resident representative Dr Sean Nolan said that the region had been growing in a "reasonably sustained fashion" over the last year.

"The outlook for next year is also favourable with gross domestic-product growth expected to accelerate and inflation to decline further," he said, adding that the region was well poised to sustain the higher growth levels.
