SHHA transfer won't bring extra costs - PS

The transfer of the Self-Help Housing Agency (SHHA) programme to the Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) will not change the affordability of loans among beneficiaries of the low-income housing programme, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands and Housing (MLH), Tsaone Thebe has said.

SHHA has been moved to the BHC following the establishment of the Single Housing Agency (SiHA) by a 2010 presidential directive. The directive also transfers all housing implementation programmes to BHC as a single housing delivery vehicle.

However, Thebe was unsure whether BHC, as a profit making company, would demand extra charges from government for its part in the construction of the low-income houses under the scheme.
