SADC Telecomms Must Focus On Personnel - BTC Chief

Speaking at the second Southern African Telecommunications Authority (SATA) human resources regional meeting held at Phakalane Golf Estates recently, BTC General Manager (Operations) Benson Rapalai said that the region's telecommunications firms were also facing the challenge to satisfy staff needs that vary from generation to another. The meeting was intended to deliberate on issues that will shape human resource policies in member countries with the view to building a reliable and profitable ICT industry and mature markets in the SADC region.
"BTC is going through a major transformation exercise - whether there (is a) need to address specific human resource issues that we are currently experiencing," Rapalai said. Personnel in various telecommunications organisations have a duty to build resources to chart the industry toward standards equal to those of the best telecommunications entities in the world. "That cannot be an easy task in the context of different economies and business maturities. The challenge is, however, worth engaging and the potential reward for our various countries is worth the effort," he said.
