Retirement not in BORNUS' vocabulary

My first encounter with the folks at the Botswana Retired Nurses Society (BORNUS) was in 2005.

First, the BORNUS ladies are, roughly speaking, my mothers' age mates, and when anyone from that generation asks for my assistance, invariably they are bound to receive it.
Second, the people at BORNUS are involved in a noble mission, which takes us back to Botswana during the pre-diamond boom period.

You see, the people at BORNUS served as nurses at a time when service still meant something. It is therefore remarkable that they still haven't lost sight of that, deep as they are now into retirement. Well, at least officially, they have retired.
BORNUS has set up a facility in Tlokweng where they provide day care to the village's home-based patients. Every morning they send out vehicles from the centre to pick up patients from their homes for a day of entertainment, counselling and, most importantly, care. At the end of the day, the patients are dutifully dropped back home to rejoin their loved ones.
