Pula reaches record high against Rand

* Falls against other hard currencies
The Pula reached its highest level against the Rand in a year and a half late last week as the South African currency took a beating from global market uncertainty and that economy's exposure to commodity price fluctuations.

Between Wednesday and Friday, the Pula moved from P0.94/rand to P0.90/rand, the strongest position the local currency has been against the regional powerhouse since February 2, 2010.

Between then and last Wednesday, the Pula averaged P0.97/Rand in 2010 and has been marginally stronger in 2011, effectively placing it at parity with the South African currency when transaction charges and commissions are factored in.
