Proposed Nairobi-Gabs air service 'grounded' for regulatory reasons

The Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) has ordered Kenya Airways and Air Botswana not to sell tickets in the designation of their recently- launched joint service because they are yet to meet regulatory requirements.

Speaking to Business Week on Wednesday, CAAB Director of Air Transport Bernard Labrosse said they were disturbed that recent newspaper advertisements could create the impression that the two airlines were to offer their code-sharing service.

After postponing the launch for several weeks, the two airlines last week announced that beginning September 4, Kenya Airways would start direct flights from Nairobi to Gaborone and that Air Botswana would sell the seats under a code-sharing agreement.
