PHK warns Thune Dam contractors

MATHATHANE: The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Ponatshego Kedikilwe, has warned that he will not condone any form of compromise to health and safety at the Thune dam site.

Kedikilwe made the warning during a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of  Thune Dam over the weekend.

There has already been a fatal accident at the dam site, which the minister said was "unfortunate". Subsequently, he has instructed a team at the ministry to be vigilant in ensuring that health and safety measures are paramount. Kedikilwe said the official handing over of the dam site to the contractor, Zhon Gan Engineering and Construction was done on April 30, 2010 while the dam is scheduled for completion in April 2013.
