New initiatives breathe life into BCL

SELEBI-PHIKWE: BCL Mine, the backbone of Selebi-Phikwe that was once scheduled to shut down in 2013, has unveiled an arsenal of life-prolonging measures, bringing hope for thousands of mine workers here, their families and other residents of this north-eastern mining town.

Last Thursday, the mine's management briefed the Mineral Policy Committee led by Permanent Secretary to the President, Eric Molale, on several initiatives underway that are collectively known as Polaris 11.

General Manager Dan Mahupela told committee members that the mine had embarked on a robust exploration programme in its lease area that has fed into a feasibility study that in turn has enabled the development of a mining plan.
