MP hails approval of diversification plans

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The approval of the Selebi-Phikwe Economic Diversification report by the cabinet has been applauded as a great success for the mining town.

The MP for Selebi-Phikwe East Nonofo Molefhi said the Ministry of Finance has indicated that it will implement the recommendations of the report as a matter of urgency. He said the ministry's first task is to set up a diversification secretariat in the mining town.
"There has to be a thorough evaluation of the projects that were suggested and the community will be engaged to crystallise ideas. Even residents of the town should line up their ideas for evaluation."

Molefhi stressed that it is good the report was approved but there is  still need for a bigger conference for those who wish to invest in the town. Chairman of Selebi-Phikwe Diversification Committee, Palalani Moitlhobogi, said the approval of the report has given the much-needed political commitment to the town's diversification efforts. He stated that the Ministry of Finance is now charged with the implementation of the report's recommendations.
