LDP to sustain BCL's performance

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Assistant general manager for BCL Mine, William Osae has said the company is yet to overcome the leadership challenges it identified five years ago.

As a result, the BCL has introduced a Leadership Development Programme (LDP) to deal with the problems.Speaking at the launch of the programme, Osae said the challenges have in fact increased because of depleting resources; deeper and difficult mining to access resources; high cost and inflationary environment and depressed metal prices; and skills shortages within the mining industry with the emergence of new entrants.

In light of this, he said the LDP is a significant milestone and a major step in addressing the challenges that will make the biggest impact in BCL's performance in a very sustainable way. He advised all LDP participants not to approach the programme with a casual attitude but with a great hunger to become leaders. Osae told participants to have a passion to transform their workplaces and be proactive in dealing with challenges and adapt to cost measures and declining metal prices. He said what often derails organisations is not lack of clear or compelling and effective strategy. He said the implementation of the strategy is what often lets organisations down. He said in this scenario, leadership sits at the bedrock of effective employee engagement to translate strategy into sustainable results that creates value for all stakeholders.
