Kazungula Bridge contract signed

The Government of Botswana and Zambia will today sign the contract agreement for the construction of the Kazungula Bridge with Korean firm, Daewoo in Livingstone, Zambia.

According to the ministry of Transport and Communication, the contract for package one of the agreement, which comprises the bridge and railway component, was awarded to Daewoo for the $161.96 million (P1.4 billion). A ground breaking ceremony for the project will be held on September 12, 2014.

The proposed Kazungula bridge and railway line is a multimillion-dollar project on the North-South corridor and is located at the border between Botswana and Zambia on the Zambezi River. The civil works will comprise the construction of a 923m long by 18.5m wide rail and road bridge, two one stop border facilities and access roads and ramps across the Zambezi river.
