Is there a market for BPO services in Botswana?

There are currently companies in Botswana that perform BPO services. The services include call centre operations, customer relationship management and customer support, back office processing, accounting, health services, research, telemarketing, advertising and sales, accounts receivable, and IT support.

Many of the services are in the financial services and telecommunications sectors. However, there are some operators in the health sector and there are opportunities in tourism and other sectors.
Apart from the domestic opportunity, there is also a significant opportunity in offshoring and nearshoring.

What does offshoring and nearshoring mean?
Offshoring is a cross border arrangement where a client in one country engages the services of an outsourcer who is located in another country. The outsourcer will usually use local skills and technology to provide this service to the client. The outsourcer, therefore, generates foreign currency and creates employment opportunities for the citizens of the country from which the service is provided.
