Inflation unchanged, rate hike unlikely

Headline inflation stood at 8.5 percent year-on-year in March, the same rate as in February 2011, figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) indicate.

But most constituent indices were stable, with Food & Non-alcoholic Beverages, Communication and Education unchanged at 5.3 percent year-on-year, 1.9 percent year-on-year and 10.6 percent year-on-year respectively.

There were marginal increases in Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco & Narcotics, which rose to 11.0 percent from 10.7 percent. Housing, Water, Electricity & Other Fuels came in at 8.0 percent from 7.8 percent the previous month, while Health and Recreation & Culture rose to 3.0 percent and 7.0 percent from 2.9 percent and 6.6 percent the previous month respectively.
