Inflation hits vegetables hardest

The prices of fruits and vegetables were among the hardest hit in the last 12 months, with an index measuring their costs rising by an average of nine percent.

The latest Statistics Botswana inflation figures also show that by comparison, meat eaters have escaped the worst of the food price increases over the last 12 months, with their index rising 6.1 percent over the same period.

According to the data, released together with Consumer Price Index figures on Monday, milk and milk-based products were the least affected by price increases over the last 12 months, with its index rising by five percent.
