IMF team jets in for economic discussions

A high-powered delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is in Gaborone to discuss economic challenges and opportunities in Botswana.

The delegation led by IMF deputy managing director Takatoshi Kato will hold talks with top government and private sector representatives. The team flew in yesterday from Uganda where they held similar discussions. The IMF officials will meet with Vice President Ian Khama, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Baledzi Gaolathe and the head of the National AIDS Coordinating Agency, Christopher Molomo.

The team will hold consultative discussions with Masiela Trust director Leslie Matlhaku and other private sector players. Today, Kato will be the main speaker at a seminar hosted by Bank of Botswana. The seminar will discuss the Botswana case as part of a study on economic growth, challenges and opportunities faced by Sub-Saharan countries.
