Govt invites bids from IPPs

Government is due to invite bids from Independent Power Producers (IPP) for the supply of 600 megawatts within a fortnight.

The move is eagerly awaited by local energy developers whose projects have been stalled by lack of dependable purchasers.

This week, senior officials in the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources revealed that a request for Expressions of Interest for a 300mw 'brownfield' project would be issued within a fortnight. Bids for a 300mw greenfield will follow three weeks after the brownfield.
