Economy adds 1 500 new jobs

Latest data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) indicates that 1,534 new jobs were created in the economy between December 2010 and March 2011, with stronger recruitment by government and parastatals leading the growth.

Released last week, the formal sector employment figures indicate that higher recruitment by government and parastatals accounted for nearly 60 percent of new jobs at 897 over the period.

Within this sector, central government added 608 jobs, followed by parastatals with 198 and local government with 91.
