SELEBI-PHIKWE: Delegates at the National Planners Seminar, which ended on Thursday, rejected a proposal that major developments should be concentrated in the capital city, Gaborone.

The proposal was made by Gaborone City Council (GCC) after Gaborone planners passed a resolution that the capital city should be made attractive in terms of infrastructure and the transport system to attract investors and tourists. "All stakeholders should plan and budget for Gaborone, as a capital city, as a team," read the resolution.

Keolopile Leipego, a principal district planning coordinator in the Ministry of Local Government said Gaborone's resolution was against equitable distribution of resources in the country. "The resolution that Gaborone must be given priority on matters of development is against the equitable distribution of our resources. We request Gaborone to withdrew the resolution," Leipego said.
