Business confidence takes knock

The level of optimism among local businesses has taken a dip due to an uncertain operating environment underpinned by low domestic demand, lack of skilled labour and a restrictive regulatory environment.

Results of the March 2014 Business Expectation Survey (BES) conducted by the Bank of Botswana  (BoB) show that, as measured by Business Confidence Index (BCI), confidence among firms has deteriorated from 45 percent in September 2013 to 38 percent in March 2014.

The results, published last Friday, are on the low side when compared to the average of previous surveys when confidence had typically exceeded 50 percent.
