BPC deal for 180MW station stalls

The Botswana Power Corporation (BPC)'s deal with a local independent power producer for the supply of 180 megawatts from a Coal Bed Methane station in Mmashoro has hit gridlock.

On Tuesday, delegates at a coal conference were told that the BPC and local power developer, Karoo Sustainable Energy (KSE) could not agree on the terms of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

"As government, we have been telling them (KSE) that we need a statement of the resource position for us to commit to a PPA," said Coal Development Unit coordinator, Ezekiel Moumakwa. Last June, KSE officials were confident of signing a PPA with the BPC, which they said had been negotiated over the previous two years.
