PALLA ROAD: The BCL Mine is looking at diversifying into iron ore and manganese mining as part of efforts to sustain the company beyond copper and nickel deposits.

The company's executive committee led by the general manager, Daniel Mahupela visited a site near Palla Road last week for which BCL has been granted two prospecting licences. BCL Mine public relations and marketing manager James Molosankwe told Business Week during the tour last week that the mine has acquired exclusive prospecting rights for two prospecting license tenements within the Mahalapye area, PL160/2012 and PL161/2012 respectively, to explore for hematite iron ore and associated manganese.

He explained that the acquisitions are part of the BCL business strategy code named Polaris II, which aims to diversify BCL's current operations from a mine to an enterprise through intensified exploration within the country and across the border.
