A 'sweetener' for pensioners as BTC raises charges

The Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) has announced a new set of tariffs, which overall add up to a net increase in charges.

The exercise, which the parastatal calls re-balancing, includes re-adjusting some charges downwards while raising others. Pensioners have however been allowed a more favourable package.

The new tariffs take effect from October 1.  In a recently distributed notice, the BTC's Public Relations Officer James Molosankwe indicated that the re-balancing is intended to align the tariffs with the costs of providing services and that international call charges have been higher than the costs incurred by the parastatal while local calls, line rentals and installation charges have been cheaper than the costs.
