A slack in profits but growth everywhere else at BTC

Landline giants Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) followed trends in the telecommunications industry by realising a leap in turnover of over P800 million.

The corporation, which is preparing to roll out its mobile phone services in the New Year, saw its turnover for the period ended 31 March 2007 jump from P739.1 million in the same period last year to P803.4 million.

However, the parastatal's net profits were down 15.1 percent from P138.7 million in 2006 to P117.8 million largely due to high operating costs.
