Hip-pop dancing, contemporary dance, modern jazz, break dance, salsa, dance hall and Afro-Caribbean were what many night crawlers witnessed when Alliance Franaise hosted a dance battle in Gaborone last Friday.

More than 15 individuals took to the stage as they all were given a chance to perform their solo acts to win the audience's approval and cheering so as to proceed to the next round. These contestants were of different ages and genders. The judging for the first round was determined by the amount of cheering and noise the audience made when the name of the dancer was called out, but if it happened that the cheering was the same then the judges had to cast votes.

At the end of all the acts and performances only three dancers were left to battle it out for the top two slots. After doing what they do best and captivating the audience with break dance with a fusion of dance hall, the two dancers who impressed the judges and audience more were 14-year-old Tlokweng Secondary School student, Rotlhe Sebatane, and 19-year-old Tinashe Mangiroza, who goes by the stage name 'Gecko'.
