Tsiki, Ntsjamme the future stars of Kwaito music

If Kwaito music still has a future then Tsiki (Mbulawa Nthoiwa) and Ntsjamme (Gasegangwe Seleka) are the future stars of this genre in Botswana. Although the two young performers are separately trying to build careers they seem to have the same vision and musical approach and prowess.

Both believe in the old style of kwaito made popular by the 90s stars like Trompies and Arthur Mafokate and determined to hold on this brand which has seen a decline since the mergence of another brand popularly called kwaito-kwasa. Tsiki is currently putting the final touches on his debut album Stileto, which looks set to open more avenues for the musician. "Kwaito does not seem to be going anywhere. It has some how survived three decades despite that some artists have been deserting it for other sounds however, when done properly it still shakes crowds," Tsiki told Showbiz. Tsiki's 10-track album boasts tracks such as Tlokwish Express, a dedication to his transport and bus company sponsors.

It is another track that will have his fans excited while able to gag his critics. Dominated by Zulu lyrics, the album symbolises that old school kwaito which thrived on rich South African language. "Kwaito sounds a lot crisp mature if done in Zulu. I think Kalanga is another language that suits the genre very well. My father is Zulu and my mom is a Kalanga so I know both languages very well and I was very comfortable in the studio," the young musician reasoned. For Ntjamme, the compositions would be incomplete without the use of Tsotsi Taal,  another type of lingo that is synonymous with this type of music. Listening to his music one is quickly reminded of the days when hits such as Madibuseng by Trompies and Kaffir by Arthur, turned heads. Those days are gone but the memories still remain imprinted in the minds of those who could not resist their melodies.
