Tlhako Ya Setso Theatre Productions, a new theatre group in Francistown, promises to make a significant difference in the community, especially among the youth.

Two youths, Thapelo Mosenya, who is the managing director, and Neo Kgotlaetsho who is the deputy director, formed the group in 2007. It became operational only recently because the founders had to complete their studies first.  The youths say that they wanted to form a theatre group for youths that would also involve elders so that a positive understanding between them would be ultimately achieved. "We want to run the theatre in collaboration with the community because in the past the youth used to shut out elders from their clubs and yet elders are in a position to advise and give youth clubs in general some wise counsel," said Kgotlaetsho.   The two youths say that they met in Jwaneng years back when they were in different theatre groups but decided to get together and form their own group but only after they had completed their studies. Kgotlaetsho says that they realised that for them to form and run a successful theatre company they would need to study hard.

"I have a masters degree in business administration and a degree in computer science. We realised to run a group as a company it requires administration skills," he said.  Kgotlaetsho said that he had also taught in tertiary academic and business studies from 2006 to 2009.  Kgotlaetsho further says that they chose to form a theatre group because they grew up in the theatre industry.  "We grew up in theatre. I was with Moremogolo Extension Theatre and Thapelo was with Sefhophe Practitioners of Theatre. Theatre is the best tool for communicating the masses because honestly,, as Batswana we do not like to read and it seems one of the best ways to convey messages to Batswana is through theatre," he added.
