Soweto gospel choir comes to Palapye

SELEBI-PHIKWE: South African Grammy award winning group, Soweto Gospel Choir is slated to perform at Palapye International Convention Centre (PICC) in June.

The South African group will perform alongside St Anthony community choir whose spokesperson, Meshack Baoleki told Showbiz in interview this week that the latter comprises mainly of the youth from the community. He explained that the choir started as a Catholic Church choir in its formative years and it has over the years transformed itself into a community choir whose membership cuts across the denominational divide.

Baoleki stated that the choir has rich a cultural diversity with members originating from different parts of Botswana with different cultural backgrounds. He explained that the main purpose of the concert is to raise funds for the community projects which include sponsoring children who did not do well in the Botswana General Certificate in Secondary Education (BGCSE) in 2012 to re-write their examinations and also to fund underprivileged children to go to nursery schools.
