New gospel show on Btv

A new gospel television programme is set to air on Botswana Television (Btv) this month.

The show Arise, created by South African Bishop Mpho Mbali will begin on July 29, although a definite time slot is yet to be confirmed.  Mbali says the 13-episode show will run for 48 minutes every Sunday. In addition to performances by local artists, the show will also feature interviews with local and international artists.  "This show will shake, shape and translate Botswana music to a whole new dimension.  It will also give locals a new platform on the international market.  I believe their interaction with international musicians who will be featured on the show will also give them a chance to establish contacts," Mbali said.  The first local gospel musician to appear on the show will be Tshepo Lesole."We want to inspire budding gospel musicians and established ones who wish to aim higher," Mbali told Showbiz.  Mbali said that he has observed with concern how Batswana continue to ignore their own talent.

"For instance, a promoter would pay upfront around P50,000 for a South African artist; but a local one will be told to perform first."Mbali explains further: "It is understandable that a popular South African artist be treated with that respect but unless Batswana start seeing their own as valuable talent, who should not only be paid after shows, the situation will remain the same."Mbali also believes local artists need to work hard in order to earn their fan's respect.Mbali laments the fact that Botswana's music industry lacks proper leadership and direction, saying there is an abundance of talent which only needs to be guided and focused.
