Makwete revolutionises Afro pop to create unique sound

For a Makwete, a group that sings wedding (manyalo) songs, revisionism of the Afro pop sound to create their own identity as a band seemed like the only viable option in an era where even 'giants' in the industry find it difficult to convince the masses to buy their products.
In the process of trying to come up with something completely different from other musicians, they often find themselves unable to even classify their music and this applies to Makwete too."I would say we do wedding songs because the music cannot exactly be categorised as Afro-pop. If you continue giving people the same product they might lose interest, but if you bring the same thing in a slightly different form than the usual then you are likely to grab their attention," Masaka Masaka, the group's lead vocalist told Showbiz.Their music has some elements of township disco, afro-pop and some house beats but its rhythm still flows easily.
