I learnt respect in Botswana - Jill Scott

The three-time Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Jill Scott says she has learnt "respect" in Botswana. "I carry certain things with me from Botswana that I will never let go," she said.

She was addressing journalists at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) press conference on Sunday.She says Americans still find it funny when she greets people or receives items with one hand on the elbow; "I learnt that in Botswana".  She arrived at the (CTIJF) press conference and greeted everyone in Setswana, saying "le kae?" much to the delight of all the journalists.

Jill Scott was performing at the 14th annual Cape Town Jazz Festival this past weekend. She was the lead character as Precious Ramotswe in the HBO/BBC film adaptation of Alexander McCall Smith's series of books The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency playing a detective filmed on location in Botswana.
